Almeria is a city bathed in the Andalucian sun which combines Spanish & European flavours with that unique taste of being so close to the African coast. The historic past of Almeria dates back to the days of the Phoenicians, Greeks and Carthaginians who found the ideal location in this land to settle and trade; which the Romans were  also able to do when they turned the province into Portus Magnus of the Mediterranean. In the 10th century, the Arabs founded what is now the capital and named it Almeria - the origin of what is now known today.

With this in mind, it is not unusual therefore, to enjoy the wealth and vast changing scenery in this beautiful area - as within this province is no less than eight national protected packs, very different from each other such as the Tabernas Desert or the Cabo de Gata-Nijar national park.

The Almeria coast lays between the Costa Calida and Costa del Sol. Along the coastline you will find towns such as Adra , Almerimar, Roquetas De Mar and Aguaulce - all with their own unique blends of Andalucian charm.
Temperature and climate

The Almeria coast is a land of contrast and contradiction - with 3000 hours of sunshine per year, and a mean annual temperature of 20 degrees.

Almerimar

Almerimar is a beautiful modern town with its own port, golf course, shopping facilities and everything else the British holidaymaker, or seeker of a new home in the sun would want - but without all the nasty pitfalls of a typical "resort in the sun". Its beautiful port, and friendly charm makes Almerimar a superb place to make a permanent residence. With over 1000 moorings at the port - this is obviously a popular choice for the boat lovers, and divers alike.

Roquetas De Mar

Situated on the western side of the Gulf of Almeria - it is only 18km's from the capital. A surface area of 60km2, it is 7m above sea level and has a population of just over 53,000 inhabitants (Circa summer 2002).

Nature parks are in abundance as previously mentioned, and in Roquetas - there is the "Punta Entinas-Sabinar Nature Spot on the south western side of the municipality with 1960 hectares running parallel to the coast. With over 2000 species of catalogued birds and specific flora of Savins and Lentisus - forming one of the best dune ecosystems of the Iberian Peninsula.

Roquetas De Mar is one of the most popular areas of the Costa de Almeria - as its broad and well kept beaches, abundance of facilities, and coastal location make it a favourite for tourists For those who enjoy water bikes, fishing, snorkelling, windsurfing or water-skiing - this would be the perfect location for your action packed break. Aguadulce

Next door to Roquetas is Aguadulce whose name comes from the fresh water underground springs which rise from the sea. It was the first residential complex to be built in the area.

With its jagged cliffs and tiny cover, Aguadulce gives a whole new perspective to his Mediterranean coastline. Close to the point of meeting with the capital, located in the centre of the bay, open to the sea and surrounded by mountains - it is a city of true character and Andalucian charm.
